Day 80 – Tuesday 29th December
Firstly I have to apologise for all the missed entries in the diary. And also, thank you to my kitten families for their understanding and patience.
All The Teas are doing fine, and growing up so fast. They really are little cats now, not babies. Which is really rather a good thing, because a week ago Phoenix started calling. The hormones in her milk did upset the babies’ stomachs for a while, because they do still feed from her occasionally. However they are mainly eating solids, and the suckling is more for comfort now, so they have been quite able to look after themselves while their mother is racing around behaving like a lunatic.
Although Christmas has been a muted affair in this house, it has been medicine for my soul to watch the babies playing with screwed up wrapping paper, diving in and out of boxes, and chasing after ribbons. Or in the case of Chai, being wrapped up in ribbons and bows so I could send Christmas photos to his lovely new mummy Emily. Chai is still such a laid back lad that poor Em missed out on the last batch of pictures I sent out, because he’s never pushy enough to get himself in them, so I made a special effort to get some for her.
I can’t believe how soon it is that The Teas will be leaving home. If I didn’t know what lovely homes they are all going to, I think I would be pretending they had all mysteriously disappeared, and keeping them all to myself J Although, I can’t imagine the state of the house if they were all here as teenagers!
To prepare the babies for their new homes, they are now going to be getting some commercial foods in addition to their raw diet. I am using Royal Canin and Pets at Home Purely brand; both in kitten biscuits and pouches. Royal Canin is an excellent quality food, with many specialised types, and before my other cats were totally raw fed, I used RC Siamese biscuits as their dry food. Lots of the new families already use RC, so it makes perfect sense to use this as one of my options. Purely from PaH is an impressive and competitively priced commercial food. It contains no artificial colours or preservatives, and no bulking ingredients. There is no dairy, and no wheat-gluten , so less likelihood of stomachs being upset.
To begin with, the babies may not even have their new food every day – it depends on how their digestive systems cope. Expect more entries about pooh! J
