Day 90 - Friday 7th January

Don’t ask about today.  You would think that spending the whole day at home, snowed in would give plenty of opportunity to get some photos and hilarious stories of the babies.  Not so.  Between being stressed about not being at work and trying to work out if my messages were getting through, it was a Bad Technology Day.  I don’t even know what was going wrong, it was just all impossible.  So all the babies are fine, but I’m sorry, I don’t have any photographic evidence.

I did just manage a few pictures of Assam and Ceylon, so here they are;

Day 89 - Thursday 6th January

Well so much for my good intentions of getting photos done on Tuesday evening.  My friend Jenney and I weren’t able to get home from work due to the snow.  Thank goodness darling Janette was happy to take both of us in and look after us.

We did make it to our respective homes on Wednesday, but the rest of the day was pretty much a write-off.  Driving conditions are terrible, and I am just so grateful we didn’t have an accident.

Today I beheaded, gutted, and skinned my first rabbits.  Kat had given them to me when I went to pick up the Cinnamon Sisters.  I was so proud of myself – the pelts were both whole, and so were the carcasses.  I was so excited to offer the fruits of my labour to my darling children.  They had no interest whatsoever.  I wonder if they know how much I wanted to make rabbit pie?

All The Teas continue to be just fine following their vaccinations.  It’s just such a shame for their new families that the weather is going to delay going home days.  Although I can’t say I’m sorry to have them here for an extra week J

Day 87 - Tuesday 4th January

Today was second vaccination day for The Teas.  Very thoughtfully, they sang to me all the way to the vets’ which was lovely.

They were very well behaved in the surgery and nobody cried, so I was very proud of the babies.  We did then hang on for a chat to one of the wonderful nurses, and for The Teas to have cuddles.

I expected everyone to be rather subdued and sleepy in the evening, but nothing seems to slow these kids down.  They ate a massive dinner and ran around like little hooligans just as normal.

We also seem to be doing fine with the commercial pouch food, which is a relief, as I was dreading everyone having really upset tummies.  Poohs haven’t been quite as delightful as normal, but that’s to be expected.

My main concern at the moment is getting enough food in the house in case of being snowed in.  I still underestimate how much seven growing kittens will get through, and end up back at the supermarket every other day.  Thank heavens for a large freezer!

Day 85 – Sunday 3rd January

Today’s challenge is to see if you can spot the Schimmel Cinnamon tortoiseshell in some of today’s pictures.  Mokatika and Ivy are both such a credit to Kat.  They are such confident girls, and even though Ivy still hasn’t forgiven me for bringing her away from her mum, she has been investigating absolutely everything, which I hope will extend to me soon J  Mokatika on the other hand, has already been joining in the big family cuddles, and she has such a sweet nature that even Phoenix is happy for her to be bundled in with all the babies.

My Grandparents came to visit The Teas for the first time today, and were fascinated by them.  The babies, being their usual presumptuous selves, were very pleased to find two new people to demand cuddles from, and I think a couple of babies nearly ended up going home in my Nan’s pocket!

Day 84 – Saturday 2nd January

Today I drove over to Oxford to visit my Dear Mad Aussie – Kat of Schimmel Orientals.  I wanted to visit a certain little blue Oriental chap who is a future stud belonging to Chrestomanci, Schimmel and Lorimnailie.  I was also bringing back Kat’s two lovely cinnamon tortoiseshell girls to go to stud with Valentine.  And most importantly, we haven’t had the chance to sit down and have a good old chat for a while.  It was so lovely to have a couple of hours with my dear friend, and I do wish we lived closer together.

So I was out of the house for most of the day, but I can tell from the pictures that Tony took, that the place was a hive of activity whilst I was out.

One thing that Kat pulled me up on was using dry food for the babies.  I had automatically picked up both biscuits and pouch food when getting commercial food to include in The Teas’ diet.  One of the reasons we had wanted to get away from the commercial foods to begin with is the link between dry food and CRF (Chronic Renal Failure).  Now, it will be completely up to the new families what The Teas eat once they are in their new homes, but it is still my job to do the absolute best I can for them while they are in my care.  So, after thinking about it, I’m going to cut the biscuits out, and just carry on with a mixture of pouch food and raw.

The good news is that the babies have taken the change of diet in their stride with no problems.  Our adults are also thrilled that they occasionally get let in on these ‘junk food’ meals, which they consider a real treat.
