Day 13 - Friday 23rd October

The teas had more visitors today - the ladies from the office came to meet the new additions at lunch time.  Once again, Phoenix did me proud and was a very calm and tolerant mother while we were looking at the babies.  For a first time mum, and a Naughty Tortie at that, Phoenix's temperament is just wonderful.

The last couple of weeks seem to have flown by, and I can't belive the Teas will be two weeks tomorrow.  It doesn't seem five minutes since I was convinced they were never coming out at all!

Day12 – Thursday 22nd October

Well, this morning certainly began in a different fashion to yesterday.  This time when I looked into the nest there was no-one at all in it!  So I crawled under the bed again to retrieve the Teas.  There are now planks of wood blocking all access to under the bed!

The Teas are totally unworried by their little adventure, and are busy with their hectic life of eating, sleeping, crawling at warp speed and rediscovering their own hands for the four hundred and twelfth time.

Today I am actually rather pleased with the photos.  We have borrowed Tony’s dad’s SLR digital camera, and the difference is quite amazing.  Well – I think so anyway.  You will have to judge for yourself!  Once again, Lotus has managed to get herself into rather a lot of pictures, but I know there is someone in particular who won't mind that at all ;)

Day 11 – Wednesday 21st October

Today started in a rather trying manner.  I woke up and looked over to the nest and noticed that Phoenix wasn’t in it.  I did a head count of the babies and only made it to six.  I counted again – still only six.  Lotus was nowhere to be seen.  Ten minutes of crawling around the bedroom floor revealed Phoenix happily feeding Lotus under the bed between two large clothes storage bags.  I returned them to the nest with the rest of the Teas, and went to sort out the rest of the cats.  And stood in a pile of cat sick that someone had left right outside the bedroom door.

Then it was litter trays and chopping up some delightful raw chicken wings and trying to get myself dressed.  Then I discovered that Indiana had hidden all of my hair bands again.  That boy has an overriding obsession with small things that aren’t his; I swear he was a magpie in a former life.    So I was finally ready albeit looking slightly like I’d been dragged through a hedge and wearing a slightly damp top because I’ve forgotten where the dry ones are.

Then the boys decided to play their highly hilarious morning game of hiding so that I can’t do the head count, and have to go and find them to make sure no-one is shut in somewhere they shouldn’t be.  It was quite nice to sit down at my desk, even if I was a wild-haired, damp, sleep-deprived mad cat lady.

The Teas were of course completely oblivious to all the chaos, and were their usual beautiful selves in the evening, so I took my camera to get some individual pictures of the babies who missed out yesterday.  I managed two terrible shots and my camera batteries died.  So, the Teas are doing well, Phoenix is being wonderful, the cats are all laughing at me and I just give up today, I really do.

Day 10 - Tuesday 20th October

Not an awful lot to report today - the babies are still doing their little workouts and practising their 'growed up' skills!  Everyone's weights are still great, and Phoenix continues to be a wonderful doting mother.  I did manage to get some photos done today, which are better than previous efforts!  I took individual photos of our sunshine babies, but the other three are going to have to be done another day - it does take rather a long time, and Phoenix starts to want her babies all back in the nest.

Day 9 - Monday 19th October

Everyone's eyes are now open!  Lotus is our little late bloomer bless her, but her cord has finally fallen off and she has got around to opening those peepers.

All the Teas are trying to learn how to be in charge of their own limbs and heads now.  They stretch their heads up to see what's going on in the little world of the nest, and can crawl across the blanket to investigate Interesting Things.  They also seem to have an excercise routine going on.  I'm sure they are doing kitten push ups and stretches to get big and strong.  More often than not, this all goes quickly wrong, and ends up with the baby on its back, with pink little toes in the air wondering what happened.  At this point they will forget what they were up to in the first place, and get all amazed at their own hands and just roll around laughing about it for a while.

Washing is the other behaviour that has started.  The Teas have discovered that tongues can be used for cleaning oneself.  Admittedly they probably aren't doing a great job of it right now, but that's why they have their fantastic mum to look after them.  It really is fascinating to watch these little versions of cat behaviour.

I didn't manage to get any photos today, but I will make up for it tomorrow!

Day 8 - Sunday 18th October

Just a small entry today with a few photos.  The babies continue to be wonderful timewasters, are still putting on weight, and Phoenix and Calcifer have decided they really are much better sharing most duties!  I'm sure if Calcifer was able to feed them, he would be.

Day 7 - Saturday 17th October

Today as well as being our 'One Week Old Day', was a visitor day for Phoenix and the Teas.  My friend Alan and his lovely niece Clare came to see the babies.  Phoenix made me very proud.  She is very attentive, and always has her eye on any baby who is out of the nest, but as long as she knows where her baby is, who is holding it, and the baby isn’t distressed, she is good enough to let us have little cuddles with her children.  I have to say though, China and Oolong are such noisy Teas, that they do bring mum running to fetch them back to the nest.  From a black Oriental I am not surprised at all at this streak of wilfulness.  I can’t help but wonder if it means our Oolong may be a tortie point though – the temper tantrums would definitely fit!
