Day 20 – Friday 30th October

Phoenix is now definitely eating to keep her strength up.  Every time she sees me she decides it’s dinner time, and sings away until I get her some.  As she is feeding seven babies (and doing a fantastic job of it too) I am happy for her to have as much food as she wants at the moment.  The last thing I want is for Phoenix to lose condition, become weak or incapable of caring for The Teas properly.

It is nice to see that when Phoenix comes downstairs for a break, she is as lively and playful as ever.  She will often bring toys over, either to be dangled for her, or thrown so that she can fetch them.  If she decides that The Teas have been left alone for too long, she will stand at the top of the stairs and shout until she gets let back into the bedroom.

Assam managed to get more individual photos than anyone else.  He is a rather handsome boy, and I think he already knows it, and enjoys posing!

Day 19 – Thursday 29th October

I just can’t wait to get home to The Teas after work.  When they realise that I’m sitting in front of the nest they sit up and have a look and a sniff, then start to make their way over for a fuss.  Today Pekoe was first out (again!) and climbed into my lap and started her little kitten purr motor when I stroked her.  Irresistible!

Ceylon is the most adventurous Tea.  She is always off somewhere on her own little mission.  She seems to have got the hang of walking more quickly than the others, and is taking full advantage.

Chai on the other hand, does very little at all, other than eat and sleep.  This boy is huge, and so laid back – he is destined to be a gentle giant.

I’m seeing lots of Kitten Bundles going on now too.  When Kat saw them she said that the next thing they would learn to do would be to biff each other on the head.  As usual, the Mad Aussie was right.  They can biff, they can wrestle and they can knock each other over.  They are also trying to bite each others’ ears, but aren’t quite there with that one yet.

Day 18 – Wednesday 28th October

Janette and I have decided today that the kittens are like little radio controlled cars.  They are wobbling around on their new legs with their tails straight out like aerials to help them balance.  The next question was who has the controller?  We have come to the conclusion that it must be one of the cats downstairs with a funny sense of humour J

What I am finding interesting at the moment is Phoenix’s reaction to The Teas’ new mobility.  She is obviously a little alarmed that her babies can now wander out of the nest at will.  I was expecting her to start dragging them back every time they got too far.  What she actually does is to go and sit down next to whoever has made a break for it, gently grab the back of their neck to let baby know she is there, and give them a good wash.  Then she just sort of stands guard to make sure nothing bad happens.

Day 17 – Tuesday 27th October

The Teas are getting so mobile that I’m going to have to think about moving them into the kitten room in a week or so.  There are too many places for them to get into trouble in the bedroom, and once they have found out how to work their back legs properly and start running around, they will be much better off in a room specially designed for them.  At the moment though, it is still such a joy to wake up in the morning and see them all there in the corner of the room J

Today’s photos are rather special, because they are all taken by Tony’s nephew Harry who is eight.  He was using my camera (which I can't take decent pictures of the babies with!) whilst we were sitting with Phoenix, Calcifer and The Teas, and it wasn’t until I looked at the pictures later on that I realised how fantastic they were.  So, that saved me from taking any of my own today, thanks Harry!

Day 16 – Monday 26th October

The big discovery of the day is ‘Up’.  The babies are finding out that they can look up with their new strong neck muscles.  The end result of Looking Up does tend to be falling over backwards, but it’s a good game nonetheless.

The Teas now have two nest boxes.  Phoenix decided she would like them to be in a smaller cardboard box that they hardly fit into.  So there is now a Kitten Village developing in the corner of the bedroom.  For most of the evening everyone was squished into the small box.  Then Pekoe decided that technically being the eldest, she is all grown up now, and was leaving home.  So she scrambled all the way back to the big box and stood there showing off for a while.

One thing I have noticed is that China and Oolong are either switched on or off.  There is no in-between with these guys.  They are either shouting and adventuring, or in a deep sleep.  They don’t have any middle settings.  It’s really lovely to see the individual personalities of The Teas coming out, and they are even bigger time-wasters than ever now!

Day 15 – Sunday 25th October

I have to say that today was a day I have been really looking forward to.  Kat came to visit, and have a good look at The Teas, and it was lovely to see my Mad Aussie and Jag the handsome Rottweiler.  Jag is such a beautifully behaved boy, and I could quite happily have kept him.  Phoenix was very patient, and let us go through all the babies about three times looking at them and comparing.

So thanks to Mrs Waddon of Schimmel Orientals for today's photos.  I now consider the gauntlet laid down, and will have to try to better them this week :)  We also have sexes and patterns.  (Subject to change by the relevant fairy for each department.)

Day 14 – Saturday 24th October

I cannot believe that this time two weeks ago I was watching Phoenix looking like (as our friend Lesley says) a walking Chianti bottle.  And now there are these seven little new people living in my bedroom!

The Teas have discovered purring!  This is possibly my favourite development.  Such a tiny, happy sound, and when they are all at the milk bar purring away it is just a beautiful sight.

Everyone has had a laid back, chilled out day today, with lots of lazing around.  I think this is one of the best things about cats - where a dog would be persuading you that a ten mile walk is what you should be doing, the cats are all delighted if you decide to lay on the sofa for an hour!

Probably due to the level of laziness in the house, there are no photos today I'm afraid, but I'm relying on Kat making up for it tomorrow by taking some good ones for me tomorrow :)
